Landslide is one of the main and frequently faced disasters by Sri Lanka. Meeriyabedda, located in Badulla district was struck by a major landslide on the 29th of October, 2014. The landslide which was triggered by continuous rainfall for three consecutive days, affected the workers of Koslande estate,causing immense damage to their lives and property.ACT Canada partnered with “Thiruvalluvar nannerik kazhagam” and supporting the education of 25 students hailing from meeriyabedde s.k.division. Thiruvalluvar Nannerik Kazhagam currently conducts classes for Maths, Tamil, English, Sinhala & Religion for 25 students in the Muthumari Amman Temple premises with the help of two teachers. As a partner ACT Canada supports financially to fulfill the aspirations of all children have access to formal education.
